Kid Koala in Vermont ¬

2007-04-19

Although already completely broke, I was so ecstatic to learn that Kid Koala will be at Higher Ground in South Burlington, VT, this coming Monday, April 23rd, that I slapped down my credit card for two tickets. Emily and I are especially excited that he’s stopping by Burlington for the last stop of his east coast shows and that we didn’t miss the opportunity to see him again.

We first saw him perform at last year’s Osheaga (Festival Musique et Arts) in Montréal, Quebec, and were completely blown away by his performances. We watched in awe when he played in the Salon des Arts, dumbfounded by his technical skills and the mixes he produced. However, that was only the beginning as he then opened for The Flaming Lips and played the most amazing song I’ve ever heard: an eerie, tear-jerking remix of Audrey Hepburn singing Moon River.

Below is a short video from the first song he played on The Flaming Lips’ stage (they had their giant video screen projecting his handiwork) which I recorded with my Canon SD200. Unfortunately the decibel level was a little loud for the poor built-in mic, but it gives a good idea of the mood.

He followed this song up with the aforementioned Moon River, but I was too entranced to record it. The following is a recording of him playing the song live at Maida Vale for 6 Music and it’s astonishing how well he has it down:

When The Flaming Lips walked onstage, all that Wayne Coyne could say was, “I was standing right next to him and I still have no idea how he did that!” Of course, there was no better show to follow up such a performance and to end the evening than The Flaming Lips! Absolutely stunning and the most fun I’ve ever had at a concert!

We were bummed that we couldn’t make it back up to Montréal for the launch party of Kid Koala’s Your Mom’s Favorite DJ, but are very glad we can make up for it right here in town!

I’ll keep you posted on how it is and I hope many will come out to see what is bound to be an excellent show.

  1. wow thanks for that!!!!!!!!
