The A-Team ¬

2010-02-17

A childhood favorite, but the original series is actually quite painful to watch at this point, so I’m sure an action-packed remake of The A-Team for the big screen with plenty of explosions and burnt rubber can do no harm. The question is, will they do justice to the unique personalities of Hannibal, Murdock, Face, and B.A.?

Craig Mod summed up this trailer best:

Yes, that was a tank that came out of the airplane that blew up the other airplane.

You can catch the original series for free on Hulu, rent from Netflix, or buy from Amazon, if you’re so inclined.

Excellent to see that Pixar still had plenty of fresh ideas for this sequel.

The Man Who Planted Trees ¬

2009-02-16

A beautiful and fascinating animated short film by Canadian animator Frederic Back. If you love movies about the environment, this will end up on your shelf next to other greats like Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind and Pom Poko.

Both “The Man Who Planted Trees” and “Nausicaä” were released around the time of my grandfather’s death when I was a young child. He was a forestry professor at UMASS Amherst and I’ll forever wonder what he would have thought of works of art like these, esp. considering his research.

Of course, buying from any of those links will help me pay my Internet bill.

Kottke on WALL•E ¬

2008-07-02

Jason Kottke’s observations and feelings about Pixar’s WALL•E mirror my own. Especially this:

With it, Andrew Stanton joins Brad Bird in Pixar’s top tier of directors, with the much-heralded John Lasseter in third place.

It’s an absolutely stunning movie. Truth be told, we went back two additional times during opening weekend to see it.

Today is opening day for Pixar’s latest. Emily bought the first tickets of the day at The Palace 9.
