Cairo ¬
2010-06-10
Cairo is a remastered true type version of the Mac OS6 classic font originally designed by Susan Kare. It includes all your favourites, like cow dog, grapes and omelet.
That’d be “dog cow”, not “cow dog”, but I guess I can let that one slide for the rush of fond memories. Moof!
Update: Yes, the quoted description is actually riddled with inaccuracies: ‘Mac OS6’ should be ‘System 6’ and ‘true type’, ‘TrueType’. I was too lazy and pained to paraphrase.
'WebPositive emerges' ¬
2010-03-03
The first official build of WebPositive for Haiku is now out. Tthe primary developer, stippi:
I’ve been working fulltime on WebPositive, often from ninish in the morning to about midnight, with some pauses in between of course. Except for missing bookmark support and an almost useless browsing history menu (because seemingly unsorted), WebPositive has become quite usable[.]
I concur, even without bookmark support, cacheing, and a number of other features, it’s faster and friendlier than BeZilla.
Classilla Mac OS Browser ¬
2009-07-01
Today marks the release of a new—okay, newer—web browser for Mac OS 8.6-9.x under active development:
Classilla is bringing back web browser support to your classic Macintosh — built on WaMCoM, a port of Mozilla to classic Macintosh systems, using the same technology underpinning the popular Firefox browser. It’s completely free and it’s open source, and it’s standards-compliant.
[…]
It’s worth repeating: Classilla isn’t finished. WaMCoM’s last update was in 2003, and that means six years of Mozilla patches and updates to catch up on.
Godspeed.
Update: Fixed the URL. My bad.

Sysmon Startup Item with Leopard Launchd Support ¬
2008-08-20
I’ve been sitting on, and tweaking infrequently, a launchd plist for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard (and Server, of course) for launching the Sysmon daemon at boot and keeping it running. Well, it’s time to release it out into the wild, so without further ado:
This is an update to my Sysmon StartupItem in that I’ve rewritten the install script to install either the StartupItem or the launchd plist file where appropriate (utilizing the little trick I wrote about a few days ago), plus updates to the documentation and such. It should support Panther & Tiger via the StartupItem and Leopard via the launchd plist. Of course, more details and previous versions can be found on the Development page.
Let me know how it goes if you use it.
Securing Mac OS X Leopard (10.5) White Paper [PDF] ¬
2008-08-20
[A]n updated version of the Securing Mac OS X Tiger (10.4) and includes the new security features offered by Mac OS X Leopard (10.5).
Considered a must-read in addition to Apple’s documentation. Previous versions can be found on Corsair’s Technical White Papers page.

Battery Park 2008 Free Concert Series ¬
2008-07-09
As one of the very first efforts from Burlington City Arts in 1981, the Free Concert Series has become a tradition in Burlington’s Battery Park for young and old, residents and visitors. The concerts take place on four consecutive Thursdays at the height of Lake Champlain’s summer and feature regional musicians.
Mark your calendars for these dates if you enjoy a good concert. This year’s lineup includes Needtobreathe, The Smittens, Back Door Slam, Cannon Fodder, Tift Merritt, The Eames Brothers, Matt Costa, and Sara Grace and the Suits.
